The Seagram Company was a family owned business started by Joe Seagram, a banker was sent from Toronto to Waterloo, Ontario to audit and look over the books of a grist mill. Joe liked the business so much he bought it and created a brand of whiskey called Seagram's 83. In 1883, he bought out his partner and later passed Seagram Co., along to his sons and grandsons who got into a fight, all needed money and decided to sell the family business. "Samuel Bronfman liked the idea of tradition and he thought Seagram was a good name," says his son Charles Bronfman. "My father drank V.O. and soda. When we was cold in the winter, he'd have a gin and tonic in the morning and my mother drank V.O. and soda in a highball glass. Every Sunday at lunch my father would have a drink with his boys. He would pour 5 drops of V.O. and fill it with soda for my brother and I would get 3 drops. He wanted to show us even when we were young to drink moderately and that drinking was part of life. He did not want either of us to become lushes or drunkards."
